Object – To prepare and dispense 10ml Sodium bicarbonate ear drops.

Requirements –
- Chemicals – Sodium bicarbonate, Glycerin.
- Glassware – 1 Beaker, 1 Measuring cylinder, Sintered glass filter.
Theory –
Ear drops are liquid preparations and usually are suspension or emulsion or solution of one or more medicaments in vehicles suitable for instillation into the ear. Eye drops are generally safe for the ears even if there is a hole in the eardrum. Eye drops are generally gentle enough for the middle ear. The ingredients of the ear drops are different depending on the purpose, 15 ml to be dispensed unless otherwise directed.
Ear drops range from liquids designed to soften ear wax, to medicines made to cure bacterial infections, to medicines against fungus. Many kinds of eye drops can be used in the ear but the opposite in not true. Ear drops are too harsh for the eyes.

Procedure
- Dissolve sodium bicarbonate in freshly boiled and cooled purified water in about 5ml.
- Add glycerin and mix.
- Add sufficient purified water to produce 10ml.
Category: Antipruritic.
Storage: Store in a closed air tight container at a temperature not more than 25oC.
Use: As a powerful astringent and as a local antiperspirant.
Result: 10ml Sodium bicarbonate ear drop had been prepared and dispensed.
