The generic medication market has been dominated by the Indian pharmaceutical industry. The Government of India understood the importance of the human resources/talent pool in order to take the lead in drug discovery and development and to continue to excel in formulations and biological sciences. As a result, the “National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) at S.A.S. Nagar Mohali” was established by the Indian government in 1991 as a society under the Society Registered Act, 1860. The Institute was subsequently accorded official recognition by a Parliamentary Act (NIPER Act, 1998), and NIPER was designated as a “Institute of National Importance.”
