Object – To prepare and dispense 10ml Simple Linctus.

Requirements –
- Chemicals – Concentrated Fennel water, Amaranth solution, Citric acid, Chloroform, Simple syrup.
- Glassware – 2 Beaker, 1 Measuring cylinder, Glass rod.
Theory –
Linctuses are solutions of one or more medicaments, usually containing large amounts of sucrose, and sometimes glycerin, as a sweeting agent and also has a demulcent effect on the mucous membrane of the throat. The vehicle syrup is soothing the sore mucous membrane of the throat, has a beneficial effect. Linctuses are usually intended for use in the treatment of cough, being sipped and swallowed slowly without the addition of water. For local and prolong action, they should be administered undilluted and sipped and swallowed slowly. The usual dose of linctus is 5.0 ml.
Dilution of Linctuses: If a dose is prescrioed which is less than or not a multiple of 5 ml, the linctus should be suitably diluted to achieve a dose-volume that is a multiple of 5.0 ml, using the specified diluent. They are diluted by syrup except codeine linctus, diabetic. It is diluted by chloroform water. For this purpose, chloroform water must be freshly prepared. Diluted Linctuses should not be used within two weeks of preparation, or any other period as may be specified as may be authorized, and the date after which they should not be used is stated on the label.

Procedure
- Weigh anise water and pour into a beaker.
- Separately dissolve the citric acid monohydrate in chloroform spirit.
- Mix these two solutions.
- Add an amaranth solution.
- Add a sufficient quantity of syrup to produce 100 ml.
Category: Carminative and mild expectorant.
Storage: Store at a temperature not exceeding 25°C.
Use: Carminative and mild expectorant.
Result: 10ml Simple linctus had been prepared and dispensed.
