Requirements –

• Chemicals – piperazine citrate, Glycerine, Chloroform spirit, Syrup, Peppermint oil and Distilled water
• Glassware – 1 Beaker,1 Measuring cylinder

Theory –

Elixirs are hydroalcoholic liquids that are clear, sweetened, aromatic, and intended for oral consumption. Ethyl alcohol (5–40%), water, glycerin or propylene glycol, flavouring, colouring, and an appropriate preservative are the major components of elixirs. The medicinal elixirs typically contain a strong medication, such as sedatives, antibiotics, or antihistamines. The flavoured elixirs are employed as flavours and carriers and contain no medication.

Procedure

1. Dissolve piperazine citrate in sufficient purified water.
2. Add peppermint oil, glycerin, chloroform spirit, simple syrup.
3. Then add purified water to make up the required volume.
