Paints are liquid preparations intended for application to the mucous membrane or skin. They usually contain substances possessing analgesic, antiseptic, caustic or astringent properties. In this preparation Iodine acts as antiseptic, potassium iodide dissolves the iodine. Peppermint oil acts as flavouring agent and produce cooling effect. Alcohol is used as a solubilizing agent of the peppermint oil. This preparation contains iodine, hence should be prepared in glass apparatus.
