Using proprietary technology that enables real-time GPS tracking, LiveOnNY, a nonprofit, federally recognised organ procurement organisation, and MediGO, a digital healthcare supply chain technology company, announced that they are collaborating to track organs as they travel across the nation. In order to identify problems proactively and ensure that more lives will be saved through donation, the aim of this collaboration is to increase openness as organs move across the nation. More generous organ donors than ever before gave their organs to the most critically ill patients across the nation who were hoping for a second chance at life in 2022, according to LiveOnNY. With nearly half of these organs needing to be transported outside of the greater New York City metropolitan region and across the country, the generosity of these donors and their loved ones led to a 30% rise in organ transplants. This tremendous growth made it necessary to find more efficient ways of getting these vital organs to individuals who need them.

The New York community we serve expects from us to use best-in-class technology to enable us to increase transparency and accountability, improve efficiency, and save more lives, according to LiveOnNY president and CEO Leonard Achan, RN, MA, ANP, who joined the OPO 16 months ago and implemented new leadership throughout the organisation. “Logistical difficulties shouldn’t ever prevent someone from using their gift to save or transform a life. Nobody should perish as a result of an organ loss in transit, especially in this day and age when anything can be delivered to your door in good condition within hours of ordering.

1300 donated organs were transported out of the LiveOnNY Federally Designated Service Area in 2022, which accounted for 48% of the total. 57% of the waiting patients in the United States who received donated organs from LiveOnNY were Black, Hispanic, Asian, or members of other multicultural groups. “Donation teams deal with logistical difficulties every day to make the best use of the gift of life. Industry leaders like LiveOnNY executives are empowered to make wise, life-saving decisions by MediGO’s cutting-edge technological solutions. Organ transport may be managed transparently and in real time thanks to our technology. LiveOnNY is better able to manage logistics and organs collected for transplant in one of the most complex cities in the US when combined with our centralised, secure HIPAA-compliant communication channel, according to Scott Plank, CEO of MediGO. Both LiveOnNY and MediGO’s goals are to increase transparency and save more lives, so effective communication is key.

Dedicated to preserving legacies through organ, eye, and tissue donation, LiveOnNY is a nonprofit, federally recognised organ procurement organisation (OPO). The US organ donation and transplant system is digitally orchestrated by MediGO’s ground-breaking healthcare supply chain technology to increase fairness and equity, decrease the nonuse of donated organs, and save more lives.
