History
Desh Bandhu Gupta, a chemical professor at BITS-Pilani in Rajasthan, founded Lupin in 1968. Gupta first lent his wife 5000 rupees to start the business. The company was able to launch their production plant for creating folic acid and iron tablets for the Indian government’s mother and child health programme thanks to additional funding from the Central Bank of India. Lupin later began producing anti-tuberculosis (TB) medications, which at one point represented 36% of the business’s sales and was regarded as the top producer of TB medications globally.
Lupin has developed and penetrated new territories over the years, producing medicines that provide the promise of good health to people all around the world. Lupin began with just two workers, a part-time typewriter and a peon-cum-packer. Today, Lupin has operations in 11 nations and on six continents. Mr. Desh Bandhu Gupta’s vision and conviction have made this journey feasible.
